Joe is a Professor and practicing neonatologist at Baylor College of Medicine in
Houston and holds joint appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and Center
for Ethics, Medicine and Public Issues. He is originally from El Paso, Texas
where he went to Jesuit High School after which he obtained his undergraduate
degree at Loyola University New Orleans. He received his medical degree at
Tulane Medical School and did his pediatric training and fellowship in
neonatology at Baylor College of Medicine. Joe is the 2007 recipient of the Arnold
J. Rudolph Lifetime Teaching Award at Baylor College of Medicine.
Cathy is a former first grade teacher and received her Bachelor of Science
degree from Loyola University New Orleans. She has served on the board of
Directors of The Woman's Hospital of Texas, the Board of The Woman's Hospital
Foundation, the St. Francis de Sales School Board and the Galveston-Houston
Diocesan Board of Education. She presently serves on the board of Family
Services of Greater Houston and the Cenacle Retreat House.
Joe and Cathy have been a sponsor couple for their parish marriage preparation
program for over 20 years. They volunteer with their church, the boys' schools and
sports activities, as well as the community.
Joe and Cathy Garcia-Prats have been married for 33 years and are the proud
parents of 10 sons ranging in ages from 13 to 31. They are the authors of
Good Families Don't Just happen: What we learned from raising our ten sons
and how it can work for you, Good Marriages Don't Just Happen, and
What To Do When Your Baby is Premature. Individually and as a couple,
they lecture nationally on family, marriage and parenting. They have been

as well as many local radio and TV talk shows. Feature articles on the
Garcia-Prats family have appeared in

throughout the United States. In 1998, the Garcia-Prats family was honored as
"Houston Family of the Year" by Family Service Center at their annual
"Celebration of Families" luncheon.
